ENG > I thought I knew the best hamburgers in Barcelona, but new places don’t stop to amaze me, such as Bacoa for instance. It’s a tiny place with very few space to sit and eat but if you don’t mind about this, you’ll be on your way to savour 250 gr. burgers, made of fresh meat and placed on home-made bread, that taste like heaven. In fact, it’s as simple as that, so let’s keep it short: try them.

És un lloc petit amb molt pocs espais per seure i menjar, però si això no us preocupa, estareu en camí de gaudir d’hamburgueses de 250 gr., fetes de carn fresca i servides en pa casolà, que tenen gust de cel. ENG > I will not be the first person to say it, but Circus Hotel in Berlin meets the necessary conditions to make you feel at home right from the start. Besides the obvious evaluations (good location, spacious rooms, attentive service …) there are details that make a difference to me, such as the clear commitment to organic products and sustainable policies, or to include in the room the hotel’s own magazine, recommending itineraries focused on discovering the city in a local and relaxed way, far from the main tourist attractions. In short, an excellent hotel to enjoy a few days in Berlin and of course, much more than just a place to sleep.

CAT > No seré la primera persona en dir-ho, però l’hotel Circus a Berlín reuneix les condicions necessàries per fer-te sentir com a casa des del primer moment. Al marge de valoracions òbvies (bona ubicació, habitacions espaioses, servei atent…) hi han detalls que per mi marquen diferències, com l’aposta clara per productes orgànics i polítiques de sostenibilitat, o incloure a l’habitació una revista pròpia de l’hotel en què es recomanen itineraris enfocats a conèixer la ciutat de manera local i relaxada, lluny de les principals atraccions turístiques. En definitiva, un hotel excelent per gaudir de Berlín durant uns quants dies i per suposat, molt més que un simple lloc on dormir.

ENG > The gastronomic offer of some shopping malls is not exactly distinguished by its variety. A morning of shopping usually ends up by choosing between a hamburger or hot dog in any franchised space with little grace. Fortunately for those who visit La Maquinista, there is a restaurant that prepares Asian cuisine dishes cooked to order, with fresh ingredients à la carte. In addition, the space is nice and bright, with very nice graphics that enhance its quality. For places like K’wai K’wai is worth continuing a day of shopping.

CAT > La oferta gastronòmica d’alguns centres comercials no es distingeix precisament per la seva varietat i després d’un matí de compres, s’acaba per escollir entre una hamburguesa o un frankfurt en qualsevol espai franquiciat amb poca gràcia. Afortunadament per aquells que visiten La Maquinista, existeix un restaurant on preparen plats de cuina asiàtica cuinats al moment, amb ingredients frescos i a la carta. A més, tot l’espai és molt agradable i lluminós, amb un grafisme molt cuidat que n’accentua la qualitat. Per llocs com K’wai K’wai, val la pena continuar un dia de compres.

ENG > If the spirit of a society founded in 1868 prevailed in modern times, it only makes sense understanding that at its headquarters, cultural evolution and integration of its references, has been respected through its program. Thus, in a building completed, as we see it, in 1944, appear on stage Edwyn Collins, Brett Anderson or Sufjan Stevens … and the contrast with the space, the atmosphere cozy and colloquial, the little formality of its interior, suggest that in this case – unlike the facilities planned today – is the content praising the continent, and not vice versa.

CAT > Si l’esperit d’una Societat fundada l’any 1868 preval en l’època actual, només té sentit entenent que en la seva seu s’ha respectat l’evolució cultural i la integració dels seus referents, a través de la seva programació. Així, en un edifici finalitzat, tal com el veiem, l’any 1944, apareixen a escena Edwyn Collins, Sufjan Stevens o Brett Anderson… i el contrast amb l’espai, l’ambient col·loquial i acollidor, la poca formalitat del seu interiorisme, fa pensar que en aquest cas – a diferència dels equipaments projectats avui – és el contingut que exalça el continent i no viceversa.

ENG > I’ve been quite some times in Milan, but surely less than I ought to… I don’t understand the people that considers Milan an ugly city, specially because its virtue stays in the possibility of doing so many things, rather than admiring one or other building. However, if there’s a place I adore from Milan is Premiata Pizzeria. It’s the only place in the world where I order a pizza quattro formaggi and it’s the only place in Milan that I don’t miss, no matter what I do the rest of the day.

ENG > I don’t know where it was I read that if you walked in Dubrovnik and saw a sign that said “Cold drinks” better stop what you were doing and follow it, since at the end of the indications awaited a spectacular bar. The truth is that I’m still glad to have paid heed to the advice because after spending all day wandering around the narrow streets full of stairs of the city, take a beer on a cliff overlooking the sea is one of the best things it can happen to you.

CAT > No sé on va ser que vaig llegir que si passejaves per Dubrovnik i veies una señal que posava “Cold drinks” millor deixar el que estaves fent i seguir-la, ja que al final de les indicacions t’esperava un bar espectacular. ENG > My new favorite restaurant in Girona has only a few months of life. Perhaps because they use a mixture of modern and welcoming space with creative, quality food, they already got many points in my particular scale when I first saw it. Finally, a ”volcano of mushrooms” convinced me to go in and although I did not get to taste it, none of the dishes that appeared on the table left me indifferent. Finding places like this, cheer up the weekend.

CAT > El meu nou restaurant preferit de Girona només té uns pocs mesos de vida. Potser perquè fan servir una barreja entre espai modern i acollidor amb menjar creatiu i de qualitat, ja tenien molts punts en la meva escala particular quan el vaig veure per primer cop. ENG > The word rinomata (renowned) only makes sense if the place to which is applied has the appropriate qualities. Among them, to cause a perennial memory of pleasure. When I think about the strawberry ice-cream from the Gelateria in Milano, it happens something like that… so I suppose that the adjective is more than justified. I’d be able to eat them even in winter!

CAT > La paraula rinomata (reconeguda) només té sentit si el lloc al que s’aplica té les qualitats adequades, entre elles la de causar un record perenne de plaer. ENG > Since the full prohibition of smoking on interiors, I’ve the impression to reconquer many spaces in my city to which I’d given up due to smoke accumulation. One of these is Mudanzas, a bar that I’ve always seen as some sort of pit-stop in my wanderings around Born and its shops. Special and cozy, perfect at any hour to recover your strength and chat for a while.

CAT > Des de la prohibició de fumar en espais interiors, tinc la sensació que he reconquistat gran quantitat d’espais de la meva ciutat als quals havia renunciat per l’acumulació de fum. Un d’ells és el Mudanzas, un bar que per mi sempre ha sigut una espècie de pit-stop en els periples pel Born i les seves botigues. Especial i acollidor, perfecte a qualsevol hora per recuperar forces i xerrar una estona.

a xiringuito… Al Faru
ENG > Two years ago I spent a July in Vilassar de Mar. Back from work there was only a premise: whoever arrives first, waits for the other. As stepping out from the train my feet led me automatically to the chiringuito right in front and my body asked for the beer that was to be slowly consumed until the company arrived. Two years have passed and they stay fit: every day a different scenario, a different activity… evenings at Al Faru are summer’s best.

CAT > Fa un parell d’anys vaig passar un Juliol a Vilassar de Mar. Tornava de treballar i només existia una premisa: el primer que arribi espera a l’altre. Just al baixar del tren els peus es dirigien automàticament al xiringuito que hi ha al davant i el cos demanava la cervesa que consumia lentament fins que apareixia la companyia. Han passat un parell d’anys i segueixen en forma: cada dia un muntatge diferent, una activitat diferent… els vespres a Al Faru, són els millors de l’estiu.
